OBJECTIVES:
In this course students will obtain a more sophisticated understanding of the real and complex number systems.  Topics covered in Algebra 1 will be reviewed and expanded.  New topics introduced include matrices, quadratic functions and their graphs, complex numbers, exponential and logarithmic functions.

GRADING:
Homework (20%):  Students are expected to complete all homework assignments.  Homework is graded on effort.  You must try each and every problem to receive full credit.  Each assignment is to be done in pencil, on loose-leaf paper, and turned in to prior to the start of class.  Failure to do so will result in an incomplete.

            Complete = 10 pts.
            One Day Late = 5 pts.
            Incomplete = 0 pts.

Tests (60%):  There will be approximately 3 chapter tests per quarter.  Each test is worth 100 points.  Tests will be announced with two days notice to afford you ample preparation time.

Quizzes (15%):  There will be approximately 2 quizzes per chapter.  Some will be announced and some will be “pop” quizzes.  Be prepared and keep up with the work.

Participation (5%):  Be active and involved.  Answer questions.  Do work at the board.  Ask intelligent mathematical questions.

The expectations for this class are:

1.      That all work is completed and turned in on time.

2.      That you Respect yourself.  That is... see me, immediately, if you are having trouble.

3.      That you Respect your classmates and your teacher.

4.      That you Respect the tools and technology you use in the classroom.

5.      That you have fun learning some very interesting subject matter!
